If you want to build it, you’re going to want to build it quickly. You don’t want to spend time trying to sell your product, but instead just focus on building the product.
It takes a lot of work to build something small enough that you dont have to worry about being ripped with fire. A lot of people, including the developers of the new game (who have a LOT of time to spend on building a game) also have a tendency to focus on their own business and not the other way around.
That being said, the developers of one of the biggest and most well received video games this year, NIS America’s, new open-world action-adventure, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, were pretty good at marketing the game, and it’s the kind of game that would easily sell itself as having a great core gameplay.
The problem is that the game is still in Alpha, and it’s not yet ready to be marketed. So it’s not really fair to compare it to another company’s work and say it’s even as good as theirs.

Another disadvantage of test marketing a game is that it’s a very, very long process. It really does take a lot of time to research all the cool new features that everyone wants to see, analyze how these new features work and figure out how they’ll fit in the story, and write a solid script to tell the story. You can test marketing your product without a full script, but that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing.
